Crewe Business Improvement District (BID) has funded a new package of measures across Crewe town centre, Nantwich Road and Grand Junction Retail Park to help make a safer, more welcoming and better-connected Crewe.
Delivered in partnership with Cheshire Police and other local organisations, the work forms part of the BID’s Cleaner, Greener, Safer commitment, designed to create a positive and confident environment for those who live, work and spend time in the area.
Specialist drug detection dog patrols have been deployed across all three BID areas, providing a proactive and highly visible presence from the Crewe Beat Police Team to tackle illegal drug activity and deter anti-social behaviour.
Joel Buckle of Crewe Beat Management said: “Crewe Beat Management are committed to making the town as safe as possible for everyone to enjoy. One way we do this is by targeting illegal drug activity, including use, possession and supply.
“Police regularly deploy passive drug dogs throughout the town to identify individuals involved in this behaviour, and we will take robust action against anyone found committing drug crime to help keep Crewe safe.”
The BID funded patrols saw over 30 searches on just two deployments, with several leading to formal actions and one arrest. This activity responded directly to feedback from local businesses that identified safety and visibility as priorities across all BID zones.
In addition, Crewe BID has committed to tackling anti-social behaviour through early intervention and youth engagement by working in partnership with The Dome Youth Zone. It is funding a targeted programme designed to support young people, encourage positive behaviour, and help reduce anti-social behaviour in the town.
Stuart Manifould, CEO of The Dome Youth Zone and a member of the Crewe BID Board, said: “It is important to us that we make a long-term difference for young people in Crewe by supporting positive opportunities that can help address the root causes of anti-social behaviour.
“Working together ensures that we can provide a safe and welcoming environment for the young people we work with.”
Crewe BID was established in April 2024 following a successful ballot and represents businesses across the town centre, Nantwich Road and Grand Junction Retail Park.
